Prime Roots® Partners with Village Gourmet’s Three Little Pigs
Collaboration Bites into Plant-based Pâtés and Foie Gras Charcuterie Trend
BERKELEY, CA—January 17, 2023— Casual French charcuterie maker Three Little Pigs today announced its partnership with Prime Roots® to make their proprietary recipe and distribute its first line of plant-based koji-pâtés, and koji-foie gras for retail. The award-winning koji-foie gras is the only legal plant-based foie gras able to be served in restaurants in the state of California.
Prime Roots X Three Little Pigs rich and savory flavors include plant-based Black Truffle and Harvest Apple Koji-Pâtés infused with black truffle and studded with apple and hints of sage, respectfully, and buttery smooth Koji-Foie Gras. Developed in collaboration with Michelin Star chefs, the products offer a delicious and meatless alternative to pâtés and foie gras that is indistinguishable from the conventional version. Koji is like the roots of mushrooms that is commonly used in miso and soy sauce offering the same umami flavor as conventional meat.
‘It’s so fun to wow people’s tastebuds with a plant-based koji-pâté, and koji-foie gras that gives people the freedom to indulge because it tastes just like conventional but is plant-based, contains no cholesterol, nitrates, gluten, soy, non-GMO, antibiotics, or top nine allergens,” said Kimberlie Le Founder & CEO of Prime Roots, “We are excited to spread joie de vivre with our first Prime Roots X Three Little Pigs epicureans’ delight.”
“We’re always looking to stay ahead of the curve,” said Maha Freij, President of Three Little Pigs, “and partnering with the pioneer of koji-based products, Prime Roots allows us to introduce classic French fare like pâté, and foie gras to plant-based consumers.”
Prime Roots is the first and only company tackling the deli and charcuterie case with freshly-sliced deli meat and charcuterie, pâtés, and foie gras all made from koji. Prime Roots Koji-Foie Gras recently won an editors’ choice ‘Nexty’ for inventiveness at Natural Products Expo East.
